So I have the Xperia J with android 4.1.2 and recently i have noticed a very annoying problem. Every once in a while my phone stops recognizing any data stored on the sd card. The album is empty, the ringtones change to default, all playlists and music disappear from the walkman. The apps and stuff are working fine. Rebooting the phone does not help. It eventually comes back on it's own but as you can imagine it's driving me crazy. Especially since the most recent disappearance has been going on since yesterday morning. It seems like each time it gets longer. Also, after plugging my phone into my computer neither the windows explorer nor mediaGo recognize ANY files on the SD card or the Internal storage. All my music and photos are saved on the sd card but i'm pretty sure that the data from the internal storage disappears too. But the apps work fine. When i open an app for cleaning it sees all my files, and both the phone and the computer (when the phone if plugged in) recognize the space that all those files take up. They don't exactly disappear, the phone just refuses to read them. I don't know what other specs of the phone might be useful, I can even list all my apps if it might be a factor.

I would greatly appreciate ANY help

Sam, thank you very much for the response.

I tried to include all the info in my message but i failed despite how long it was. I'm afraid it cannot be the sd card (it is the original) because it seems to affect the internal storage as well. I don't have any muisic on my internal storage so i wasn't sure if anything from the internal storage was dissapearing and since the apps (most of which i saved on the internal storage) are working just fine i assumed it wasn't. But i double checked now and the really strange thing is that when i plug the phone into the computer and open the regular windows explorer, I go to Sony Xperia J and it shows me both Internal Storage icon and SD card icon with a little bar showing me how much space is occupied and free on both (both show a couple of GB occupied but neither is full). And now for the strange part, when i open them, they're both complately empty. No folders, no files. Nothing. Even though they are both more or less a couple GB.

Thank you in advance for further help

It's a little disappointing that after my initial post I got an almost instant response from Sony blaming the issue on the sd card manufacturer and when it turned out that the cause lies most likely in the device itself, suddenly I've been waiting for help for weeks and nothing...

bought a sony xperia E 2 months ago. phone was totally usless, and non functional.brought it back to o2 store, and after a massive argument, and having to demonstrate they have no 'test', to analyise the phone, they replaced it, and guesse what? same issues with the replacement. load music / video, reboot, or power out, and all data is gone. i wil NEVER purchase another sony product. I'm going back to my iPhone 4s. The xperia E is a complete waste of money, and to add insult to injury, Mediago, and PC Companion are usless as media transfer apps. Sony will NEVER compete with real players. What manner of gob**bleep**e thought of allocating so little capacity considering the low cost of material. Putting an SD card slot in, and it doesn't function properly!!!!! Come on!. the sound is terrible, and the EQ might as well be two cans, with some string between them. Calls drop, WiFi drops, 3G? Ha!. I should have taken the advice from the O2 shop - 'check the second hand shops. whatever makes / models are there in front display, avoid buying new or 2nd hand'.

regarding runnng a repair - factory reset eight times in the last two weeks! ran repair, settings reset, factory reset, no good. four SD cards, all new, ranging from 4 to 32 GB, same problem! O2 are no help, completly rude, with an obvious lack of technical knowledge. imagine telling a customer, they had to keep the phone to run 'tests'. I had to argue so much, the sales guy, finally admitted, they just do a factory reset, and run an app or two! the shop involved lost several sales, as potential customers were part of the conversation. apps still crashing, data dissapearing, droppped calls, on voip and cell!mwhy in the name of god, did i even think about

The same problem has happened to a friend of mine. If this is a common fault shouldn't there be some sort of compensation or free repair?

I have a problem with my Walkman app on my Sony Z2.

I add songs to my phone which then go to the newly added play list, at this point they are in my songs library. When I then download a new bunch of songs, the previous bunch go completely missing from songs library etc. I've tried searching for them using the search tool but they are not found.

Please advise on my issue!! It's really annoying because half the songs I download go missing....

Anyone had a similar issue?

The problem doesn't lie with the card itself but with the phone - It doesn't read the internal memory nor the SD memory! The PC companion won't make a difference. The missing files disappear for a time but then reappear after a while - I cant have this happening! It's frequent and it is not what i expected when i bought the phone, an Xperia J.

Clearly this is a common issue with these phones, judging by this and many other threads, and if you cannot provide us with a real solution other than this cop-out of making us download your PC Companion software I expect to look after my consumer rights and look for a phone that isn't faulty, from another brand, that I'll get my moneys worth out of!

Now please, what useful advice can you offer us about fixing this problem once and for all?

I have the e4 and a mac computer I'm using a genuine San disk and yet every time my phone shuts down due to low battery it turns on and the icons cannot be found. Google play says they are installed and "downloaded" says there are 34 apps but I can only see two. why opened from Google it's clear the phone can access them the shortcut icons just don't appear. how do I solve this?
