Exactly this was possible in the first Version of Lollipop. But since the last update to version 270 this option doesnt exist on my z1c anymore. -.-

Hi there!

I have the problem that i cant select a wallpaper like in KitKat. I only use 1 Homescreen and i didnt want the wallpaper to be as if there where more screens. I made it witrh the resolution of the phone (1280x720), so it would fit perfectly. But in the settings i cant fit it on screen. I took a video with the ScreenCapture Mode from the device (nice 1 Sony ;): https://vid.me/hQ93

Pls help

Try to set the wallpaper from Album app instead:

Go to Album, select your picture, tap on 3 dots icon, choose "Use as", choose "Wallpaper" with Album app icon, choose "Crop picture" using the NEW photo editor (same color and design of album app), maximize selection and click Save.

That´s what i tried first, but it didnt work. (Version ....242). Now (on 270) i didnt have this option. If i go to "choose as" --> Background, i came directly to the same 1:1 select thing (this square) you can see in the uploaded video. No question if i want ot crop it.

Nice to hear you managed to fix it, you can also try installing different photo editing programs and try setting the background from them instead of using a different launcher (in case you wanna keep Xperia Home launcher).
