M2 - Obtaining IP address

So I sent me M2 for repairs, after very light damp rain managed to break it. I paid £130 to get it repaired, took the better part of two weeks and they charged me £12 return postage which took 6 days to reach me. So I started off at a low point when I opened my 'new phone' or 'functional equivalent' they said. Well...it is a duff one. Constantly on loop of obtaining IP address, no internet access. I phone customer service and without hesitation the chap says I have to send it back for returns. He clearly felt this was a known problem. So why did they send me a duff phone after charging me and making me wait 2 weeks. Hardly a functional equivalent to M2 I had before jogging in light drizzle. I've looked online and tried the various ideas to fix this, rebooting router, resetting phone, etc. I really don't want these sharks to have my phone again, I assume they will gouge me another £12 for super long postage besides taking forever to get it back to me (I stupidly thought 'how nice, free postage for returns' when I sent the phone off, not realise that they shaft you at the other end, holding your phone hostage!). Can anyone help me solve this problem without sending it back? Many thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for the link. I'm not technically minded but might see if a friend can look into this for me. BUT I do wonder, after paying £130 for a repair, why Sony thinks this is ok and why I now need to repair my own phone. I do feel that I need my money back, quite frankly and my next upgrade will definitely not be a Sony. Shocking service.

Ah thanks but the M2 is completely sealed so you can't dry it out in this way. And it hardly got wet at all - I was shocked that a 'sealed' phone could suffer this damage from a light rain while in a case in my hand. But hey ho, I paid to get that fixed. This issue is now the IP loop - this is a known fault and yet Sony sent a duff phone as the replacement, after I paid £130. Now it seems I need to fix it myself. I may go to small claims court to get my £130 back as they did not fulfill their end of the bargain of sending me a fully functional phone.

As far as I know, this is a new phone - they have given me almost no information, just said the other was not repairable and I would be sent a 'functional equivalent'. I have no idea if it is new, refurbished, etc. Really the most awesomely rubbish service I have ever experienced. I just can't believe I gave them £130 for them to send me a phone that didn't work. As a single mum, you can imagine that this is a huge blow to income as well as a nuisance for not having a functional phone for about 3 weeks now with no end in sight. I am going to try your fixes tomorrow. I was looking for a way of recovering my £130 - others appear to have taken Sony to small claims court!
