Camera glitch at night

Hi folks, been very happy with my Xperia 5 since I bought it a month ago

However, I discovered a glitch that appears when the camera (photo and video) is active at night. It looks like the camera reflects it from the shiny objects in the viewfinder, but I can tell you it ruins the whole video. I uploaded a video of it on youtube so you can see it and also a photo.

Does anyone else have this? I am thinking that this is a hardware error in my handset. The ultrawide camera does not show this glitch, only the main camera. Can anyone advice me on this? Many thanks.

I never realised it to be a glitch.... 🤣

I have the same on my xz1 compact and xz2 compact...

You will also notice this when you point your camera towards the sun

is common for most cameras.

Some suffer more, some less.

Read about it.

BTW Did you already try startpage.com as a more privacy and less advert prone search machine?

The camera video looks terrible.

But since you say you are very happy with your Xperia 5, you should accept everything about it, including its shortcomings and flaws.

This is a lens flare, a reflection of light within the lens. It's physically normal and common for all cameras, nothing you can do about it except for keeping the lens clean to minimize the effect.

The reason why this reflection is not visible in the ultrawide lens is that this lens has a different curvature which leads to a different reflection behaviour.

Anyhow, you shouldn't point a camera directly to a light source as the resulting photo or video can't be good due to the necessary dynamic range. HDR nowadays surely helps but it's better to avoid such difficult scenarios in the first place.

Hi everyone, thanks for all the tips and advices.

I was aware of the lens flare when directing it to the sun, never knew that bright lights at night could do this. But it makes sense however, I will find ways to avoid such bright lights when filming using your tips and links.

As for the Xperia 5, it is a wonderful phone. I will not hesitate to buy it again if I lose it anyhow.
