Z3 Compact will not connect to WIFI

Hi,

I have no idea why my phone won't connect to WIFI.

The problem happened overnight and I didn't dropped my phone or whatever. The home WIFI is definitely working because I am currently using it, my phone could connect to it before and other phones in the house can also connect to it.

I have tried everything to fix the problem. I have changed the advance WiFi settings - doens't work. The WiFi won't turn on and shows a status like this - FOREVER.

I bought the phone in HK in January but now I am in UK and have no access to a Sony shop. Does anyone has any clue how can I solve this?

Hi @skng,

Could you test Wi-Fi in Diagnostics? You can find Diagnostics if you go to Settings > About phone > Diagnostics > Test.

Hi, Im also experiencing the same issue and furthermore the phone gets really hot when it is in wifi mode. Please advise on if it is a Sony update issue.

Hi @kayatoast,

Have you tested Wi-Fi in Diagnostics as described above? If so I would suggest that you do a software repair via PC Companion.

In PC Companion you press start on "Support Zone" > Start on "Update the phone/tablet software" > "Repair phone/tablet" (the blue clickable link in the message) > Follow these steps without having your device connected to the PC.

Follow the instruction that appears in the program and do not connect your device until this guide tells you how to connect it.

The software repair will remove all data stored in the phone so don't forget to make a backup in PC Companion before you try the software repair. You can do a backup using the Backup & Restore option in PC Companion.

Hi Christopher,

Disappointingly, I have tried the method you suggested and it says Test complete and passsed the test.

But my phone's WiFi still cannot be turned on at all!

I have just tried testing it in safe mode. I have attempted several times and everytime it comes back to me saying "Unfortunately, Diagnostics has stopped"...

Hi, I have tried factory resetting the phone and used PCC to try to rectify but it is still the same..

Initially, my phone was unable to receive and send text message as well, but at least that issue is resolved after performing the above action.

Used the diagnostics test and it said that it is working fine.. I fiddled around with the phone and found that if I switch on both wifi and bluetooth at the same time I can hook on to wifi fine. strange.

@kayatoast Very strange indeed. If it keeps behaving like this I suggest that you as well contact your Local support.

Hi, I have the same issue here. I have a xperia z3 compact which have been working fine since it was purchased approx 1 yeas ago. Now, for some reason, wifi will not turn on. I can pull the slider to ON or to OFF but it still seem to be searching for network for ever. I have tried to run diagnostics, which tells me nothing is wrong with wifi. I have also tried to kill running processes to see if something was hanging. Eventually I saw a post in this thread, saying that turning Bluetooth on at det same time made the wifi work. I tried this, and same thing happen for me, wifi works! But this did not last for long. After some minutes, when I was writing this post, wifi was turned off again, and now I am not able to turn it on again even when turning Bluetooth on at the same time,

At first I thouth this had something to do with Marshmallows, Android 6.0.1, but this thread seems to be posted before Marshmallows was released on Z3. I also had 6.0.1 running for a couple of months without trouble so this has to be related to something else.

I see a lot of discussions in several groups mention this problem.

Has Sony come up with a solution here?

(Please do not suggest repair through PCC....)

@RLN, do you happen to have a 5ghz or dual band wifi router? Any Bluetooth device connected also when this happen?

Just an update Sony have said this is not covered under Warrenty even when you can go through these support pages and see lot of users having the same issue, terrible service.

The answer is: The repair costs 250€ !!!!

My phone is 2 years and 3 month old........

Hi All,

I have got the same problem too: the WIFI would not start, but the Diagnostic WIFI test OK, and the WIFI MAC id has changed to 02:00:00:00:00:00 .

Is it any type of Hardware error?

Has there been any cure for this at all?

My Z3 Compact has just stopped connecting to WiFi, and is running hot, having changed its WiFi MAC adress to 02:00:00:00:00:00 .
