USB Tethering Issue z5 Compact

When USB tethering my Dell i3 Chromebook to my z5 compact, I can consume content, but checking for updates is currently broken. ('Help and About' -> 'About Chrome OS' -> 'Check for and apply updates'). When an update is available, it will simply not show when tethered to the Z5c. When I disconnect the tethering and connect to local wifi, it works fine.

Does the Z5c block certain types of data or traffic during tethering? I don't think I had this problem with my old Android phone (Moto X 2013).

That sounds a bit strange.

It's not possible for the phone to block certain data when using tethering so i don't think it's related to the phone. Are you using the same operator and APN-settings as you did on the Moto X?

Yes, APN settings appear to be correct, I can consume other types of LTE data on the phone and the chromebook. Also all other Comebook data functionality works fine when connected to a regular broadband wireless connection.

This should be fairly easy to reproduce:

1) Find a chromebook not on latest OS

2) Tether mobile data to USB

3) Attempt to manually update the chromebook via the 'About Chrome OS' page, it should always show not available or not download any updates

4) Disconnect tether and connect to landline wifi

This has happened on a couple occasions to me as I have yet to receive an update or notification that one is available when connected to the Z5c. I don't think it's the chromebook becasue the procedure works fine on regular wireless. If someone out there is able to get updates to work via Chromebook and Z5c, it's on my end.

Open a CrOSH shell: "Ctrl Alt t"
type "update_over_cellular enable"
type "exit" (or simply close the crosh window/tab.)"

Typing update_over_cellular into my crosh resulted in:

crosh> update_over_cellular
[1106/103550:INFO:update_engine_client.cc(518)] Current update over cellular network setting: DISABLED
crosh>

Looks like problem was on my end.
