VGN-S3XP LCD-Problem - Every 30 sec flickers

Hi,
I purchased a new VAIO VGN-S3XP two months ago and have the following problem since day 1: approximately every 30 seconds the LCD screen flickers shortly, as if it tries to set itself to full brightness, then returns to the brightness I set previously. I checked all Windows- and Vaio-Help without result. The built-in VGA NVidia GeForce Go 6200 is not listed in Microsofts Hardware Compatibility List (others with "6200" in the name are).
Could any settings be the reason for this annoying behavior ?

This seems to be a hardware fault. Return the VAIO. And ask for a replacement laptop. (get a other VGN-S3XP).

Does your model have a sensor which changes brightness? A lot of VAIOs do.

Check your documentation, if it does, it's normal, but really it should be able to be switched off.

But I could not find anything about a sensor in my VAIO documentation. Where could that sensor be and what is it for ?
Could my problem occure with a certain energy saving setting ?
(I cannot return the notebook now, because I'm abroad)

I checked on the SONY Japan website and they refer to an updated video driver to resolve such symptom (if the Babefish translator is accurate).

The video drive they mention is Nvidia GeForce Go 620 driver 7.0.8.7

Hopefully this one will be available on www.vaio-link.com

Hi,

Since I have the similar problem on the same model, I guess it's still due to the Nvidia SmartDimmer, after I turned it off, the LCD no longer change the brightness without my permission. When using AC power, the LCD stays the same brightness no matter I move mouse or not. So please try disable the SmartDimmer for both the AC power and Battery, and before disable it, adjust the brightness to the max.

I am having a similar problem with my FS115S, and am sending it away today for that. Basically al esupport told me was that it needs to be sent off to get fixed, and that autoluniancy sensor feature comes usually with A and T series VAIO's

NVIDIA GeForce Go 6200 Graphics Driver Version 7.0.8.7 for Windows XP

This update resolves the following problems:
- Screen goes black when playing M2T file with DVgate Plus
- Colour noise appears when playing M2T file with Windows Media Player
- LCD brightness flashes when it is dimmed (by pressing Fn+F5 or unplugging AC adapter
