Help!

I have had this laptop for a year and a month.... and guess what it has now broken!

I hesitate over the sale of goods act here in terms of "fit for purpose", if opening the screen to use it doesn't constitute normal usage I'm lost but anyway I don't know what to do.

I've got the screen back on but it will flicker and switch off, or not come on at all past a certain (small) angle. Could the "lid shut" trigger be malfunctioning or is a connection likely to have become dislodged? I'm sure it's in the same area as the power supply as it keeps changing its mind as to whether the power supply is connected or not (it is,,,,).

Any ideas on repair strategies? Buying this cleared out my finances a year ago and they haven't recovered to afford repair! Are there any companies out there you guys know of?

Grateful for any response,
Cheers,
Ian

I may end up posting this on vaio village aswell, but in the meantime I have attempted to check the connection myself (i'm not a novice with comps and hardware btw but not an expert either) however I'm used to desktop PCs and this laptop is somewhat more.... well packed than a desktop. Removing every screw on the base seemed to release nothing, but removing the fascia fromthe screen as such revealed that everything appeared to be connected ok - at the screen side at least.

My main question is whereabouts am I looking to find where the screen cable connects to the mainboard and how best to get at it!? (If anyone has done this before). I am having to resort to self check initally because the finances to go through the professional route do not exist.

If and I say IF your laptop is like a GRX there is a screw under the firewire flap (left hand side towards the rear. Remove that screw and then slide the speaker grill to the left a bit and then lift and tilt.

Then a screw previously hidden by the speaker grill is now visible midway along the top of the keyboard. Remove that. then gently lift and tilt the keyboard by the top edge.

If its not like a GRX - I have no idea:smileysad:

(Did snap off one of the mini 4armed things that lock the cover back down but theres still five of em lol and it stays shut quite happily.

Fingers crossed.... I haven't lost the screen since my fiddle, but it if goes again I know where to go now! That little screw is above the firewire port on this model and just to the side of the memory stick port!

Thanks for your help again and will no doubt be back when/if I open her up to check!

Ciao
Ian
