Hi everyone

This question probably has been dealt with before. I would have done a forum search, but wasn't able to find this function any more. I haven't been around for some time and maybe I'm just too taken aback by the new design or the fact that after 35 years of belief in my masculine essence Club Vaio tells me I'm a lady after all. And it's being quite insisting, wouldn't let me change that.

Anyway. I just bought a USB 2 memory device that supports high speed technology. The system informed me that I would need a high speed USB controller to make full use of the possible transfer rate. Is this a hardware issue or a question of a special driver one can download? I'm using a Vaio FX805.

Thanks for your help
Gernot

It's a hardware issue - the only way to add USB2 to a notebook that only has USB1 is to use a PCMCIA card. These are pretty cheap now - about £20 - £30.

Depends on the hardware you are connecting. For things like external hard disks the speed increase is dramatic. A good site for info on the different versions of USB is here

Yes - firewire 400 is about the same speed as USB2
