I'm getting the same problem (Its late at night and all the support people have gone home).

I've been using Click to DVD having saved some tv films via the PCV-V1/G onto the HDD. The Click to DVD seems to work out ok but doesn't recognise the disc in the DVD drive.

The drive is a Matsushita UJ-810 (You'd think it would be a Sony in a Sony machine). The disks being used are Philips DVD+RW 4.7GB data (120 min Ext play).

Even accessing the drive via My Computer and it still doesn't recognise the disk.

Hello,
I have a Sony V1. I have never used a DVD -RW drive before. I have discs, but don't know how to write / copy etc :smileyblush:

Drag & Drop works ok, but it seems that I might as well use a DVD-R as I can't save then later delete or move files

Can anyone help me with this please?

Hi Mike,

To write data files to a DVD-RW, you need to drag and drop the files using Windows Explorer.

For example - lets say I want to burn My Pictures - I would oepn My Documents and double click My Pictures. Then I would open My Computer and double click my DVD drive. Then I would drag the files from My Pictures to the DVD window and click burn now.

Thank you for your reply, however I have a problem.

My pc, a Vaio V1 always tells me to insert a blank writable CD, although I have inserted a blank DVD-RW, which is the correct disc for this machine, it will not write to this disc.

Do you have any idea why this should be?

So when you go to burn the files it throws the disc back out?

Are there any other burning applications on the V1?

I think that while you may be able to write files to the DVD, from my limited understanding of the process, if you "FINISH" a dvd, whether it is a RW or not, that fixes teh disk and you cannot alter the contents of teh disk, or write any more files.

Maybe there is a setting for your DVD burner......

A DVD-RW or +RW can be erased and used again whether the disk is closed or not. If you want to use a DVD-RW/+RW like a floppy where files can be erased etc. then you need some packet writing software such as IN-CD - http://www.nero.com/us/info_incd.html

Now I understand, there are 2 ways of writing to DVD, the other way is packet writing which requires different software. I am pretty pissed off that Sony not only doesn't include such software, but doesn't even mention its existance :smileyrolling_eyes:

I must add that I think that Sony documentation is lamentably bad and the customer service staff that I have dealt with by phone not very helpful either :!: (that was a Clie issue):

On the whole whilst the V1 is a really neat piece of design, I rate the computing performance average (haven't tried many of the multimedia features of which I have high hopes) with documentation and customer service poor so far.

Very neat package, hdd a fair size, cpu ok, 512Mb ram not enough for me to edit photo's so upgrading, not tried the graphics or multimedia capabilitis but should be good I think.

Seems quite good generally.

The video card is a bit bog standard but it is fine for 2D work and video - which is what the machines main audience is. It certainly won't play any games well

Amazing! I couldn't do this either and I thought I was the only one having problems.

it works fine with Nero. Apparently there is something called keygen which converts the evaluation version into a full working version, but I haven't worked that out yet.

You have to use -R/-RW in that machine.

Hello Kee-Lo,

I am currently suffering the problems this thread relates to. I have used a variety of DVD-R/RW media (three different brands so far) but with no success. It has prompted my reading of the forum today. Firstly, my drive is seen in device manager as a Matshita UJ-180 (note: no mention of it being a DVD-R drive, is this right in WinXP?). Secondly when I insert CD-R, CD-RW, etc. media, Windows can read it, but when I insert DVD-R blank media Windows does not seem to see it. Sony's troubleshooting suggests a system restore. Like our friend (in the thread) I wanted to use Click to DVD program and transfer a TV program I recorded in GigaPocket to DVD. I am a V1 owner. You seem very knowledgeable...hope you can help
