Any advice please

I have owned a Sony VAIO VPCEB1EOE for year now and this last week when I turn it on it comes up with"Configuring windows updates, do not turn of your computer" with a 0% underneath, eventually it goes off and I can sign in, can anyone tell me what this is and why it should have just started to appear? is there anything I can do? any advice would be greatly appreciated. many thanks Julie

Hi Julie,

Firstly, I would try resetting the Windows Update Components. This is rather complicated - so the nice people at Microsoft have automated the process so all you have to do is click on the "Fix It" button here and follow the Wizard: -

Come back if this does not work and we will try a System File Check and repair to see if any Windows components have become corrupt.

Hi thank you for your quick reply. I clicked on the website you gave and it said I am using a different programme to one on there which was for vista, I am on windows 7, I am not brilliant on things of this nature and so have not carried out the process, will there be one for windows 7? am very wary, I have mcafee security with BT and so cannot understand why this has happened? many thanks julie

I would try OPTION 2 first and only if that does not work, try OPTION 1

It worked thank you so much. Could I ask I have this laptop and another one, can I put both on my network so that files can be shared and printing and if so how do I go about this. Kind regards Julie

Hi Julie,

Yes that should be possible - however, the method depends on the Operating Systems.

What OS are you running on the second laptop? Windows 7, Vista, XP?

Do both connect to the same router wirelessly?

Is the printer connected to one of the laptops or is it a network printer connected directly to your router? If it is connected to one of your laptops, that PC will obviously have to be turned on to print from the other laptop.

Which printer do you have?

Hi the other laptop is XP and yes they are both connected wirelessly the same BT hub. I have a HP photosmart all in one printer and I have it onto my laptop, thanks so much. Julie
