Remove Vista recovery?

When I upgraded from XP to Vista Premium Express, I removed the XP recovery part on the hard drive, because I wanted to have more space on it (I removed the D-drive and made everyting into one big C-drive). Now, my hard disk should be 100 GB, but it seems like as if Vista has its own recovery part of about 7 GB (because it said 93 out of 100 GB). Can this be correct? And if so, can I delete that as well, since I have the installation DVD?

Hi Tragardh

Are you sure you have another partition..?

As the difference in hard drive size could be due to the different way manufactures and Microsoft report the sizes..

Manufacturers use the SI scale for example 1KB = 1000 bytes

Microsoft, ie windows XP, use the binary, for example 1KB = 1024 bytes

Therefore manufactures 100 GB hard drive = 100,000,000,000 bytes.

Whereas MS 100 GB hard drive = 93.1GB

example 100GB manufactures size converted to MS binary scale...

100Gb = 100,000,000,000

/1024 = 97656250 kilobytes
/1024 = 95367 megabytes
/1024 = 93.1 Gigabytes

Hi Thalamus & Dekesh,

I wasn't aware of the way of counting hard drive space, but surely that must be the explanation. So, I now understand why my 100 GB drive on VGN-AR11B in fact is only 93 GB. Obviously, those "mysterious" 7 GB is NOT a hidden Vista recovery part. Thanks!

/ Tragardh
