Camera Sensor Sony IMX445 Vs IMX586

Does anyone know why the IMX445 was used in the Xperia 1, when there were better sony sensors available?

I guess it is part of the general discussion that Sony doesn't use its best camera sensors in its own smartphones and photography/ video is rated lower than phones from the last year, e.g. Xperia 1 is below iPhone 8 on dxomark.

Going forwards, in a certain rumoured device that will have six cameras they will go against rumours and not use the IMX586 or worse performing sensor but a newer better one.

Off topic here, but there still isn't a night mode on Xperia smartphones, so not exactly keeping up with competition here.

because the imx 586 does not have memary stacked and because of this, is for my part intended for the mid-range and it is confirmed by the fact that only the Chinese manufacturers use it as much on their high-end on their model low and mid-range 200 € megapixels are more sellers than. When to dxo it's worthless with fake photos (ex: the giraffe which corresponds to a zoom x4 and not x2 as they claim) and changes the rules when he wants for example with the iphone 11. There is also the excuses for using phoney software like the image does not fit in their sites but everyone knows that there is no need to change an original image to display it correctly on website. They can very well put a miniature and redirect to the photos of origin as do most websites. For me dxo = money, the test of xperia 5 proves it well, they tested the front camera and that's it ...

The answer is simply: to cut te costs.

This is why they offer inferior internals while asking for it more than competition at the same time. By doing this they have highest margin profit in each single device in Android world. Seems they are greedy?

This is also why their best and biggest sensors will be first used in Xiaomi / Hujawei next year and sony will deliver its own older inferior technology: smaller sensor size for sure.

Stacked sensor size? Who prohibited them from producing newer better, bigger sensor with stacked memory??? Same applies to who prohibited them from including bigger battery and more RAM/ROM. Same obvious question. Same reason.

They have their best tech for competition while Xperia is using older and worse solutions. Among the others, one of the reason they are where they are.

If you want best camera, best battery and best internals nawadays you have to go for chinese brand and its flagship model.

Agree on DxOMark and I never consider their opinion, DxO is just another paid service and useless.

Its not that xperia is very bad, but definitely worse when it comes to hardware used and its advancement from competition. However, this is only sony choice and not limitation. They are exactly where they want to be.

p.s. yeah, there is no night mode, no 21:9 in main camera but also no many other features.
