Group Messages (MMS) option missing

Hi everyone;

Just noticed that in my new Xperia 1 (J9110) the MMS Group Messages option (usually the first option in Messages>settings>advanced, or choose SIM) of the Messages app is missing (so I can only send mass SMS text).

The strange thing is that I had that option in my XZ Premium with the exact same SIM cards and same Messages app version.

Does anyone is facing the same issue or have solution?

Hi again;

After some search I have seen in this forum, and other forums, this thing happening to several users in several equipments but I could not found a clear cause or solution for it.

Regarding the Xperia 1 does everybody have the Group Messaging option available in the Messages app?

When you're looking for an alternative: Signal.

Safe, secure and full of options.

Nope, it's now "Start Chat", at the bottom of the screen.

Add contacts to the active group, then send sms, mms, gif, photos, assistant stuff, location, emojis, etc...All works fine here on mine, in the UK with o2 as a carrier, and o2 users, giffgaff, vodaphone, and EE users all in the same group, all able to send/recieve texts, and the others.

I've got 2 active groups, family, and work, and both work fine.

Hi @RottenFoxBreath ;

Thank you for answering.

Usually there is one option (the first one) in Messages>top right 3 lines menu>Settings>Advanced (or select SIM in dual SIM) called "Group Messaging" where you can choose between mass text (send an SMS reply to all recipients and get individual replies) or group MMS.

That option is missing in my Xperia 1 Messages app, however I tried removing my SIM cards and restarted the phone without them and the option came back to the app, so I came to the conclusion that it must be related with my operator (Vodafone PT).

What is strange is that I had that option in my XZ Premium with the exact same SIM cards, probably the network need to do some update phone related.

Without this option I can not choose "group MMS" and have a group conversation (send an MMS reply to all recipients).

Do you @RottenFoxBreath have that option in the advanced messages menu and the ability to choose between "Mass text" or "Group MMS"?

Yeah, the options are there.

But to be honest, I just use the Start Chat feature at the bottom of the main page, the blue balloon.

It can all be done in there, so haven't even bothered as I knew it worked.

I opted to be part of the beta, and am running a version which was updated 2 days ago.

Check out the Play store, and search for messages, select the app page from the list, scroll down and see if you can access the beta, to join it, and update the app, see if that adds them to it.

Thank you @RottenFoxBreath, I figured it should be there since I also have it before inserting the SIM cards, don't know however if the update should be done by Google or Vodafone, I am going to try talking to Vodafone but I am guessing they are not going to help...

Hi again @RottenFoxBreath ;

Can I ask you another thing this time regarding the Xperia 1 screen, is it normal when viewing the screen from sharp angles (more than 45º) the whites turning blueish like there is some kind of filter?

Yes, quite normal, but like you say, the angle has to be quite sharp..more so from top of phone to bottom, than from side to side.
