Yes, I know officially it's not supported on this TV, however it does play via USB and it looks pretty nice.
So at the very least the TV can play HDR content which suggests partial support.
So why won't they enable this for other sources? or give us access to HDR content via Netflix or Amazon app?
Or have Sony just decided this is where they draw the line for support...
Hi there
As far as I understand things, HDR was not meant for the X80C series TV. However due to a firmware update long ago, it seems that HDR via USB playback works - to some extent.
I can only assume that the TV does not meet the correct specifications for HDR on Amazon/Netflix
Cheers
I would assume it's missing something however that's just an asumption, I would like to know if there is a hardware limitation here or if this is simply Sony restricting support.
Being an 8 bit panel itself is not a limiting factor unless the source device requires it, like PS4 Pro for example. For general media this has not stopped other 8 bit devices getting Netflix or Amazon HDR support.
