I have finally managed to be able to get the videos onto my computer, and now want to edit them in Windows Movie Maker but it does not recognize the files. I have tried converting them, but PMB turns them into/uses VLC which movie maker does not recognise either. I sepnt an entire day downloading and trying different programmes that are supposed to convert m2ts files and VLC to ordinary old somethings that wmm recognises, to no avail. I can't believe it - surely there must be SOME way of making this (expletive) camera work with windows programmes!!
If it is impossible to use windows movie maker with PMB-generated files, then WHAT free movie editing prorgramme DOES work with PMB??!! Where can I get it?
THis is driving me absolutely CRAZY!!!!!!! HELP!!!!!!
Hello gogrrrl
Out of interest, is this one of the pieces of software that you have already tried:

Thanks,

I am also looking for a best video converter out there where I can easily watch it on my Bravia.
you can also try this one, it should work. PMB can also convert M2TS files but only to low resolution WMV.
I have tried this nice freeware and if you select WMV as output Windows Live Movie Maker is able to edit the processed file (from DSC-HX9, 1920/50i). If MP4 is set Windows Live does not recognize file (but Windows Movie Maker 6 does....)
Although my post is too late, I hope it could be useful to you.
If you would like to import DSC-HX100V AVCHD videos to windows movie maker for further editing, I suggest you convert the avchd videos to wmv at first.
What I am using is this program: Brorsoft MTS/M2TS Converter. I have been using it for nearly one year and there is no problems. I usually use it to convert my Sony CX160 1080P AVCHD videos to MP4 for further playback on my iPad or WMV for further editing with WMM.
The best important factor appropriates me to choose it is its large variety of video formats. I feel it is very dependable and does exactly what I need it to do. Overall I am very happy with it and feel it was a good investment of my money. So I thinks it's worth to try and you can have a free trial at first.
Besides, here is a detailed guide demenstrating how to convert Sony DSC-HX100V MTS to AVI/WMV for Windows Movie Maker: http://www.brorsoft.com/how-to/convert-sony-dschx100v-to-aviwmv-for-windows-movie-maker.html
Hope above information could be useful to you.
