Blu-Ray BDP-S3700 Frozen

My Blu-Ray player has been working perfectly for weeks but suddenly it has become totally unresponsive.  It powers on and the Sony Blu-Ray banner screen appears on the TV but none of the functions work - tray will not open, Home button does not do anything, even the power button on the device will not turn it off or reset it.

Hi,

Can you please try if disconnecting the device from power for some minutes will solve the issue?

If not you might want to send to service for inspection.

Cheers

Peter

Thanks Peter for the reply.  I tried that when pressing and holding the power button for the recommended 60 seconds did not do anything. After more than a minute, I reconnected the power and it came back on in the same state. I then disconnected it for about 20 minutes but the same happened when I reconnected it.

Hi,

that doesn’t sound good, I think you’ll need to get it check by a repair specialist..

Thanks.  I returned it to the retailer and had it replaced.  So far the replacement has not displayed the same symptoms.

Would you believe that the replacement worked for about 2 months before freezing.  This time it firstly failed to load the BBC iPlayer app - stopping before it displayed the BBC home screen.  I powered it off completely and on again and this time it displayed a partial Sony home page with only the YouTube icon - BBC, Netflix, etc. had disappeared.  It would not react to selecting YouTube so I powered it off and on again and this time it displayed the SONY Blu-Ray screen and would not do anything - same as the first unit.  It will have to go back to the retailer again but this time I'll ask for a refund and purchase a different device.
