Hi, I recently brought a 2nd hand Sony STR Dn850, when I set it up, it was working faultless, however kept notifying me of a software / firmware update, so I decided to update it, since then some strange things have been happening to it, i'll try and add pictures or links to the pictures, ive tried factory reseting it, but the problem remains, note the coloured lines were at the bottom of the screen originally and were pixelated, you can still see them in the speaker config page in the video, but after moving it a couple of days ago, they've turned to green and red at the top of the screen, also noticed that when scrolling through menu's the selected option is completely blacked out, (see video), ive tried different HDMI cables, the strange thing is, these lines only appear in some of the menu's for instance, theres no sign of them on the main watch / listen / setting selection screen which leads me to believe its a software / firmware issue.
Hi Jamin280672,
Welcome to the Sony Community.
I'm looking into this for you and will get back to you as soon as possible.
Cheers,

Hi Jamin280672,
I've checked the video and indeed it appears to be software related which is strange since I haven't come across anything like this here on the community pages.
I also took the time to check Sony's description of the update and its benefits and it's mainly to improves network connectivity. (Link: https://bit.ly/2K8BOYy)
Since you've already tried to do a factory reset and tried different cables, I'd recommend having your receiver inspected at a service centre as they could have a way to fix that software issue. You can use the following link to locate your nearest authorised service centre and contact them about having your receiver inspected: http://bit.ly/2xELqru.
Hope this helps.

Thanks guys, yes I instantly thought its got to be software or firmware after the update, is there some way I can force flash the firmware again or back flash to the previous firmware? A hidden service menu etc.
The unit as I brought it 2nd hand is out of warranty and I'd imagine Sony would send me a big bill, thankfully the issue doesn't affect me using it, it's purely graphical, maybe I'll just keep my fingers crossed for another update in the future to sort it out.
Hi Jamin280672,
As far as I'm aware there's no way of forcing the update on the TV again especially that TV shows it's on the latest version. Also, there's no way of going back to an older firmware version and that's why I recommended having your receiver inspected at a service centre. You can definitely wait for an upcoming update if it's not affecting your usage.

My receiver's software version does not show up. Also my network settings menu is greyed-out. I have done the re-set several times but only my speaker settings are able to re-set. I have connected my receiver to the router via Cat-5 but I am still not able to do any kind of change or update. I have disconnect the receiver over night and still no results. Is there a way to down load the firmware on a USB and update the receiver?
