STR-DN1080 subwoofer - playing 2.1 sound

Playing 2.1 sound to listen to music
I have the STR-DN1080 AV receiver - is there a way to play 2-channel/stereo music with just the 2 front speakers and the subwoofer?  Thanks for any suggestions as I get used to the new receiver.

2-channel/stereo is what it says on the tin, not sure why you would want to introduce a sub into the mix, do you feel it`s not got enough base then?

If you only have the 2.1 connected then it detect should detect this and work just fine.
