UHBP X800/HTST5000

The  X 800  spec  states that it decodes both Dolby  Atmos and DTS -X   based surround  sound from disc, and outputs  this on the HDMI 2.0   audio port as  7.1  . The HTST 5000 soundbar spec states that it  receives Dolby Atmos and Dolby HD on HDMI,but not DTS.

So  in order to  play UHD discs with  only a DTS-X soundtrack, it will be  necessary for the   X800 to convert DTS -X 7.1 into Dolby Atmos 7.1 prior to transmission to thg soundbar.Does it do this ?

The alternative  is the Pioneer Elite  or  Oknyo Dual object based audio format soundbars, but I  would like a  single source supplier for my whole system.  (along with the A1 OLED in the UK ! ! )

Hi there

Even though the UHP-X800 can decode DTS:X, unless the soundbar can output DTS:X then it wont play.  In the manual for the UHP-X800 you can output audio via bitstream, but it only mentions Dolby/DTS, with no mention of Dobly Atmos or DTS:X - so I am unsure if this would/could work.

According to this link below, it states that DTS:X will be enabled with a future Firmware update, however I can find no other instances for this.  Many articles link the HT-ST5000 and the STR-DN1080 together of which the STR-DN1080 will get a DTS:X upgrade via firmware - so you might want to contact Sony directly and enquire about this:

If DTS:X is an absolute must, I would recommend the STR-DN1080 over the soundbar.  Although I have heard Atmos played via the HT-ST5000 and it is really good and volume can go quite high too.

Cheers

Thanks, great link to CIS 2017  Sony sound bar   demonstration with far more information on DTS capability  than is  on the Sony site.

The bit I don't get  is why wait to implement  DTS X by firmware, when  the sound bar isn't released yet, and so  it could be upgraded with the DTS X  Codec now.

Of the 6 recognised  UHD Bluray demonstrator disks ,which I  have just bought as a package, 2 of them have only  DTS X  in the English language soundtrack.

I bet   Dolby Atmos is awesome though HTST5000.and that  the UHBP X800 picture would be  awesome though the A1 OLED,but I'm still waiting  to purchase that system in the UK, so my 10 year old Pixel Plus processed CRT and Dolby Digital 5.1 system still rules.

my soundbar came ore loaded with the software upgrades in DEC 2019.
