Stop the internet connection

Hi,

When I want to exit from browser, I follow the user manual, press the 'square' button. But when I checked my data usage, seems like my phone still connect to internet...

May I know how do I totally stop the internet connection?

I'd appreciate clarification that enabling WiFi automatically disables the 3G data connection ??
