Intermittent hissing noises from Bravia kdl-40v2000 speakers

These noises are fairly quiet and have no discernible pattern and with sometimes fairly long gaps between them. They cannot  be heard on the headphones often used concurrently with the speakers. Fiddling with the stereo controls, etc doesn't reduce the noises.

Apart from buying an el cheapo sound bar (this is an old TV and I think its screen is darkening), are there any solutions to this irritation, please?

Hi Pofadda, welcome to the Community 

That sounds like electronic interference, probably being picked up by an HDMI cable. Have you tried disconnecting everything to see if that solves the problem?
