Just bought the 46nx713 and have found the sound quality to be very 'tinny' have tried messing with the sound settings with no improvement. Any tips on getting better quality sound.
I also have this tv on the the stand that came with the tv and found that it is sitting uneven (left hand side is 15mm lower than the right) Went to the local sony dealer and found that the display tv was the same. Anyone else had this problem resolved?
Hi.
We brought the KDL-40EX723 and set it up yesterday, we also noticed poor sound, yes agree about it being very tinny. Very disappointed. It reminds me of the old CRT tv's low volume, tinny and no bass, very poor even compared to very cheap stereo's Big let down for such an otherwise great modern top of the range TV
We also have a problem with the stand though different to your problem, the tv though secure seems wobbly and leans forward and the tv doesn't tilt back either ?
Have you spoken to Sony about the stand or had any feedback about the sound from anyone ?
Hi,
No ihave had no feedback from anyone else regarding my post.
I went to the shop I bought the TV from and complained about the sound, they contacted Sony for me and the response from Sony was nothing less than shocking, they advised the shop that the TV was thin and this resulted in the speakers having to be smaller and further more Sony said that anyone spending that much money on a TV would probably be buying a surround sound system to go with it!
The shop offered me a refund or said they could supply me with a speaker bar at cost price (sub 460s) in which the TV sits back at an angle of 6 degrees, this cured the listing to one side but to be honest the speaker bar sound is better but still not tooo good.
I have always previously bought Sony TV's but I am very disapointed with this one.
Hi.
Really is that what Sony said, well that's really helpful isn't it lol.
I don't believe the size of the TV makes any difference to what sound quality they can provide even the smallest speakers can provide a good enough sound if made properly.
It seems speakers/sound on most TV's seems to be bottom of the list for most manufacturers for some reason or they expect you to pay out another £300 or so on a surround sound system.
Why when they can provide and include the best and most futuristict features is sound still bottom of the list ?
So did they not offer any explanantion for the stand tilting to one side ? Also sorry how much did you get the sound bar for if you don't mind me asking ? I've searched the internet but it doesn't seem to be available anywhere else except the sony website so can't get it any cheaper unfortunately.
Cheers Simon.
dog1666,
i know the answer is far from satisfactory however i have the SUB551S fitted on my KDL55HX923 and can tell you its far better than the standard speakers, i also have a full blown home cinema kit.
the problem these days is manufacturers compete in making sets as thin as possible and therefore space for speakers are at a premium which leads to most if not all ending up downward firing hence the poor sound, i must admit for most on normal tv viewing its adequate but for movies or blu rays its only natural you want something with a little more punch.
mine used to tilt to one side with the original stand also, and with a screen this big looked horrible, but now i have the SUB551S, and to be honest it does sound better but better still makes the tv look something else if not mean with the six degree tilt.
go for it!.

Hi Charles.7,
sounds very much like the unit has failed, i would suggest you return it to your retailer for a replacement.
