Advice on system restore please!

Hi all.

Despite all my best intentions, my Vaio notebook has become unbearably clustered with junk.

What makes things worse is that I now have annoying ad and spyware which is proving very hard to get rid of. Basically my entire computer needs a clean slate. I'm prepared to back up my MP3s and lose everything else.

What I want to know: is this advisable on the whole? Is system restore a perfectly good thing to do? Do many people do system restore to clean their overclogged systems out? Also, will I have any problems with the Vaio software, such as having to re-register the product?

Finally, how would I do all of this? Any help much appreciated!

Yes !

Is the right thing by to do. But, before don´t forget :

Backup all Private files.

Did you a copy from Recovery Disk´s in CD or DVD.

Not !. Do It !. ... and after that you can use the Recovery Disk´s.

Their will clean your system.

Hi, thanks for the reply!

What do you mean by 'private files'? What are 'private files'?

Have you ever used system restore to clean your computer?

Private Data.

Letter´s, Music´s, Movies,... everything personal.

Yes. I did a lot of times. :slight_frown:

After that, everything is 100% better !

A system restore will only wipe the C: drive. Your 😧 partition will remain untouched. So back up of course, but if you have other files you wouldn't mind keeping as well, put them on D:.

What about a complete restoration job using the Windows restore disk?

Would that be advisable? If so, how would I do it? I'm prepared to lose everything I haven't backed up.

Just put The CD on Drive. The whole process is automatic...

Just to be sure of things...is the restore disk the one which comes sealed in the Windows Xp envelope?

You can also reinstall without using discs. Just use The Vaio Recovery utility which is accessible from Programmes. I found this really easy, didn't need product keys or anything. Had backed up beforehand including my Address Book. Favourites, Roboform data etc were fine but Address Book contacts weren't there unfortunately.

Definitely go for it, good luck
