Expanding memory to 1gb

Hello there!

I want to upgrade my sony vgn a197vp to 1gb memory. Currently it has 2x256mb. The sony manual it says the laptop needs pc2700 ddr sdram. Can i use just any brand laptop memory with pc2700ddr or do i have to use the sony brand memroy which cost almost twice as much.

Is it better to put 2x512 or 1x1gb. I prefer the latest. By the way on the corsair site it says my laptop can have 2 x 1gb of memory. The sony manual says the maxium is 1 gb. Anyone tried 2gb?

Thanks all!!

shocked are you kee Lo? lol

yeah 512 Ram is good for me, but when games go past 512RAM i be upgrading to 1GB.

But again 512 is just right for windows xp home computer stations.

But even when the new windows comes out next year windows vista, that only needs 256RAM, 1.3GHz, 10GB 7200RPM and etc.

Ive seen it run on a 512 RAM and 1GB of RAM and it runs perfect on 512RAM so thats good for 512RAM computers.

And i tell you people the new windows looks out of this world.

i am wondering if the corsair low latency memory will make any noticiable speed difference in my laptop.

Currently the speed is: infineon 2.5, 3, 3, 7 (with Everest).

The corsair CMXSD512-2700LL speed is 2, 3, 2, 6
