[:-?] Hyperthreading... hmmm

I got my K series around about a year ago. I got one with a P4 so i wouldnt have to replace it for a while, - and to show off to my friends stuck with their x86 systems :smileygrin: .
Anyways, i ran some benchmarking software today, and according to the software and as a complete surprise to me, my system supports hyperthreading :anguished: but its disabled :cry: .
So, my question is.. can i enable HT, is it safe, or am i trying to do something impossible.

Chris - thanks for the heads up on this theme.
God it is so Cool. :slight_smile: :cool: :slight_smile: :cool:

No wonder it has had so many downloads.

It depends which K-series you have. Only the K-XXXz ones have (or had, last time I checked) hyperthreading. I made that mistake too, but when I checked up it clearly only said it on the Z models. The rest don't. You're probably better off without TBH.

It can be a demon in disguise.

@Seb
Sony lock the setting for enabling HyperThreading (HT) in the BIOS, and it is IMPOSSIBLE to change the setting.

Some experts say that HT isn't as good anyway

True. But then they should use the P4 with Northwood kernel. This CPU is better, more accurat and has the same speed with the half of Level2 Cache, compared to a Pentium 5xx.

The same with the Pentium 6xx. They use the 2MB Level 2 Cache for a better balance between calculation faults and speed.

No idea what I should say. I pay for a full PC, but I get only a half.

Yeah i've got a K215Z.. it seems stupid that they would lock it out, and i cant even access my bios during startup, - there isnt anything displayed apart from 'sony' and 'windows XP' grrr. Maybe a harsh letter.. or a dodgy computer shop lol...

You can access the BIOS, it's one of the F keys that you should press when the VAIO logo appears. I forget which for that model, just press them all until it appears :slight_smile:

There's not a lot to do in the BIOS though, Sony have locked almost all the options out.

ahh oky, thanks for that, im just gonna try it now.... :slight_smile:
