I have a number of queries regarding a re format of my VAIO VGN-FS215Z (which includes placing a new HDD into it).
First of all, I believe i need to back all my stuff up and make the recovery disks. I have then downloaded the drivers for the FS215Z, however there does not seem to be the Sony Shared Library to download. I have read in many places that this is essential to enable the hot keys to work and for me to re-install some of the applications that came with the VAIO? I have found the Shared Library by looking at other VAIO laptops, but am not sure if the Shared Library is a universal driver that works for all laptops?
Also, I have read that to enable the hot keys and the top function buttons to work accordingly, I will need to install the Shared Library, then the Sony Utility DIL? and then the Hot Key utility. The sony Vaio drivers website does not feature the Hot Key Utility, or is this in an .EXE format?
Secondly, some of the drivers do not have .exe files, for example, the LCD driver appears to have ICC files etc. Do I just copy and paste those files into the drivers section on the C:\ and that should work?
Last but not least, I will be replacing the existing hard drive. I will be using the old HDD as an external, however how would you format the hard drive to wipe it clean? Could I use it externally as it as, because Windows XP is still on there?
