I would like advice on how or where to trade in or sell my Sony vaio pcv v1/g for a newer model

There is no trade-in scheme operated by Sony.

You could try to sell it on eBay - the asking rate for a fully working PCV-V1g looks to be about £65 to £75 but I don't know if they actually sell for this.
