Sony Vaio VGN-A117S screen went blank

My Vaio screen went blank few days ago. I can see it my application faintly in a dark room which means that is something to do with the monitor.

I used the recovery disk to reformat & installed it as new and the screen was restored as normal. Then after 30 minutes it went blank again.

Can anyone help me? Is it the monitor backlight or the graphics card?

Hi chukwe,

As you can see the LCD image faintly it sounds like the backlight has a fault. The only bit of good news is that it sounds intermittent and could just be a loose connection in the wiring.

The usual problem when this happens is a fault in the Inverter which provides a high voltage source for the backlight tubes and this can be an expensive item to have replaced.

As you are out of warranty (I assume) you will probably need to get a local repairer to have a look at it.
