two drives

i am also new to sony having purchased a VGN-A217M.is it possible to move the partition between the two drives

What exactly do you want to do?

i want to transfer video from camcorder which uses up all free space on c drive but i still have 46gb free space on d drive

I think if you set the temp directory to d: then you should have no more problems.

I agree with Keelo.
WHat ever video editing program you are using, go to its options page and change the working directory to the D drive.

Try to keep the C drive only for actual programs.

If you keep files on the D drive, these should be saved if the computer crashes and you have to restore the C drive or format the computer.

IF you really want to adjust the partition sizes, you have to carry out a FULL system restore which will delete ALL information and files on both the C and D drives (instructions in your Sony owners manual).

Or... ...you could use software such as Partion Magic. I think the latest version (8.0) is around £20.00.

However, it is advisable that you back-up you software before using it and carry out a defrag (at least twice) before adjusting the partition sizes on the fly!

I have used it before without any problems, it's much quicker than a complete re-install!

PS If you are editing video (Adobe Premire or Click to DVD) be aware that the video files are saved by default to the 😧 partition, so it is advisable to keep it as unclutterd as possible.
