Today I discovered I could not play a dvd as the dvd/cd icon on my Control panel is not there. It has been visible up to now and I have used it regularly.
Has it been hidden for some reason? I know the drive is in the system as I searched for it in Device Manager and the Optiarc DVD RW AD-7560A ATA Device is there. It does however say in the General Properties window...
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.
which I clicked on.
Please can someone advise me. I am not greatly proficient technically and would appreciate some help.

A simple solution has been added by Thalamus where you just have to download cdgone.reg and run it.
Good Luck

Dear Blencogo
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I followed the instructions through (not forgetting a system restore point!) and my dvd device has reappeared!
It's amazing to learn all this technology, very complicated computers are!
Thanks so much and happy new year!
