Hi,
I hate to come on a vaio website and try not to curse them really but i've had my laptop since january and its really been nothing but trouble!
I have two issues ( at present)
1. laptop has stopped playing dvds. i added vista sp1 and that killed my sound drivers so i thought it might have doen the same for my dvd drivers but i reinstalled them and nothing. i have wmp, windvd, realplayer all installed and not one will play a dvd. installed a vista codec pack and that too did nothing... ideas?
2. windows update 3 doesnt work, not sure it ever did. i get the error that model number cannot be found on the server, message ID0008. Starting to worry because the icon keeps appearing meaning updates are due but i cant get them!
anyone please have some ideas? i'm really considering just not using this beautiful laptop because of its faults!
Hi Dublin-Blondie.
First go to the download page for your model and install the patch is called "VAIO Update 3.1.02.03190". This will fix your Vaio Update problem.
http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/updates/updates.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons&c=0&s=VGN-CR&m=2861
Install this and see if Vaio Update works. It should offer you a firmware update for your DVD Drive which should fix that.
It should also offer you a BIOS Update to Version R1120Q0 which fixes the sound problem experienced after installing SP1.
If Vaio Update does not offer these, you can download them both manually from the same download page as the patch.

Hi,
Thanks for the assistance. I've got vaio update working now and updated the bios and everything else that needed- quite alot!
however i still cannot play dvd's... i have audio, i can listen and play cd's but just not DVD's. WMP 11 will read the dvd and show its contents but wont play it, windvd crashes and media centre also crashes. i have installed a k-lite codec pack and this still hasnt rectified the problem.
Ideas??? PLEASE!!! haha
