vaio fn keys on linux

hello

i recentlly purchased a vaio s4hp (great piece) and installed linux on it (ubuntu hoary)

the only problem i have are the fn keys

i tried sonypi and spicctrl but didnt work

anyone found the solution

I don't think you'll find a way to get them to work. Simply because I don't think anyone has been able to convert the program to Linux, and because Sony are very unhelpful wiith the move to Linux on the VAIO range.

You can always try VAIO Village, there's some tweakers on there who love challanges.

I think I may try a dual-boot with linux on my next VAIO. I daren't try it again on this one:smileysad: .

Would be very interesting though, IMO, as I have never used linux.

i dont know why you guys leave windows with good feature and installing one Linux or Unix Base Os ... and you guys cant find any driver and more problem ...

first of all thanks

my linux is ubuntu and i searched many forums before i ended up asking here but i didnt find the answer anywhere

as for why i installed linux

i wanted to learn how to use linux and the first impresions i have is that is very good and you can do all the things you can do with windows
plus (if you are an experienced usrer-not like me) it gives you more control over the system
+its virus free
+stable
+.....
its sad that sony doesnt help the linux users

the only thing I've achieved under linux is using the sonypi driver provided with the kernel (currently 2.6.12)
this driver -as long as I've understood- should be based on acpi.
inserting the module the system logger does recieve the keypress of the FN key.
The only problem is that I don't have much time to configure it properly, and I don't already know how... btw working on the sonypi interface in /proc/ does not work correctly, i.e. setting the screen brightness (the only thing I'd really use).

the sonypi driver is a reverse engeneer'd driver. I've a fs115m and I'm supposing someone @ sony changed something beneath the cover... 😞
these guys should re-consider linux support IMHO

im not agree with you about Linux virus is FREE
its not .. linux have virus but not to much like windows
over 80% ppl in the world use windows .. thats why one programmer want code a virus ... he not waste time for under 15% ppl in the world

i dont believe linux security is better than windows .. its not true
if you get certificate from microsoft about Administrator and or home user . you can make best security on your windows

why Windows server can be hack easier than linux ??
because many LAMER dont know how make security on windows they make Server

any good server installed by a REAL MICROSOFT ENGINEER cant be hacked easily ..

linux is stable ... windows is stable than linux .. because if your windows got problem . fixing the problem on windows is 100 time easier than linux

also i have RHCE ( Redhat Certificate Engineering ) book , i review something on it ...

in linux your hand is close for choosing software because u cant find

JUST one thing is good on linux is its FREE

Good Firewall is for WINDOWS its ISA 2004
Good Mail Server is for Microsoft its Microsoft Exchange
Good Directory Service is for Microsoft its Active Directory
Good Technology about DNS is for Mirosoft ( u will learn it on 70-291 Microsoft Course )
