I have been having a problem for a while now with the Vaio Notebook, PCG-GR316MP. When it is first switched on, the screen is pink where it should be white. After a few seconds (5-10), the pink fades and the screen displays as it should (as if its warming up). The notebook has been doing this for months. Then suddenly the notebook started flickering, and then went off completely. It then stays off. It comes back on if i return the notebook from a standby, (like when screen off when no activity), or when i turn off power and back on again, or if i cycle through external monitor etc. But when the screen comes on, its goes off after a few seconds.
Has anybody else seen this problem? Is it the screen or the notebook? Does anybody know of a good place in Manchester to get it fixed?
Thanks in advance.
Yeah it's quite common, sounds like your inverter is on it's way out
Does it happen only on batteries or when you're plugged into mains?
Happens on mains and battery. Notebook is 18months old, so out of warranty. Is the inverter easy to replace?
I'm not sure having it replaced in Manchester is the best of ideas (my opinion only). I would have VAIO-Link do it, as they would do it in a Sony way:smileywink:  I'm sure they must allow out of warranty repairs for a fee.
feel free to correct me if i am incorrect

Its easy if you know how, never done it myself - but I hear there are VAIO repair stores in Manchester who are approved.
Check your yellow pages
have the same problem and its not the inverter
Probably the backlight
is it easy to change backlight yourself?
It's not difficult if you can get the spare.
