Vaio motherboard is beyond repair

The chipset on my Vaio VPCF13M0E/B has failed.   Repair would be £670.   Sony very kindly looked into helping even though I'm 2 months out of warranty.   Had the second year of warranty been with Sony rather than John Lewis, they would have been able to help out, which is more than fair.

Nevertheless, I don't want to have to throw the laptop away after only 2 years' use, yet for the cost of repair I could buy a new one.

I'm wary of buying a motherboard from ebay or unknown and dodgy-looking websites.   I'm even contemplating buying a second-hand identical model to use for spares.

I'd really appreciate any suggestions, advice or warnings that might help me get the laptop up and running again.

The motherboard number is A1796418A
