Hi, I have a VGN-FS215B and it has Intel 915GM graphics which has upto 128mb shared graphics. It says it is using 35mb so how can I change it to 128 for game playing? Is it possible to change this or is it automatic when syarting high demand applications? Will it slow down the overall speed of the computer much? Thanks
Welcome to Club Vaio. When you start a game say Battlefield 2 the graphics card which is idle or optimized kicks in to releive the pressure on the CPU. If your games not working at a good frame rate then yes you card needs looking at. Defragment many times and then install games and try this too TuneUpUtilies Also might consider partitoning up your hard drive so give yourself a games partition with it's own OS I have one 30 gig big. Another thing is rip the game CD and mount it in Alcohol 120 so it runs the game from the 5200rpm hard drive and not the 24x optical drive. You will have perfect game play then.
Hi, thanks for the ideas. I'm gonna sound quite stupid here but what exactly is defragmentation and how do I do it? Also, what is Alcohol 120, is it a program so I don't have to use the disc when playing games? Is it free? Thanks again.
PS. what type of programs should be run in 256bit colour?
Thats cool my friend.
1.Defragmentation is a process where the concentric circle sectors of your hard drive are messed up. When you move a file or the internet burps information that should be written in a convienient place, instead, it is copied willie nilly and it takes longer to for the HD reader arm to travel and collect that information you need. Defragmentation fixes this by grouping these fragmented files to a go get place so read times are reduced and a faster computer is experienced. Trouble is the computer is not that good at defragmenting it so you need to defragment over and over till it gets it right. This will takes hours but the results will mean less need to defragment as often. 1.Firstly disable your power off and screen saver and right click on system tray and start task manager and disable everything except systray and explorer
2.Go to Control Panels/Performand maintainance/make programs run faster and defragment. Do this many times till it defragments in about 30 seconds.
3.You might run into trouble making an a nero file or .iso and using alcohol120 so I would get a friend to do this for you. Besides the game will play pretty good anyway just on the optical drive
4.Don't forget to turn your screen saver and power saver back on
Hi, thanks for the advice I'm defragmenting as we speak, taking ages! If I were to put a game on my hard drive could I just rip it with Nero? Also, if I want to rip max payne 2, do I have to rip the 2 installation discs aswell? Do I not need a crack or anything?
Also because I have no dedicated graphics, I ave to reduce the settings on max payne 2, as if I don't occasionally it won't let me turn the character in the game. If i do rip it to the hd, it will be faster so do you think it will run smoother on full settings?
Thanks!
