hi. Just wondering if I am able to upgrade my windows 7 pro to ultimate and if I would incur the full charge or a lower amount due to having windows 7 preinstalled on my laptop.

Any help would be much appreciated

Hi Jake,

As far as I am aware there is no In-Place upgrade available for Win 7 Pro to Win 7 Ultimate. You can of course use the Anytime Upgrade to Windows 7 but may very well encounter problems with both drivers and utilities with your Vaio.

Are there any features that Ultimate has over Pro that you need – i.e. language selection or Bitblocker? If not stick with the original software and avoid all the complications you may encounter.

Hi Jake,

Make sure you use an 'Anytime Upgrade' to keep your preinstalled software and drivers.  The upgrade from Professional to Ultimate costs $129.95 by purchasing a new Product Key from Microsoft.  Have a look here: -

However, you may be able to purchase the Product Key cheaper elsewhere - try Google.

Really all you get extra are BitLocker and Language Packs so you will have to choose if it is worth the extra.

I would run Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to make sure these extra features will run on your model - it should be OK but best to check as there are some funny things in Ultimate!!

If you want to go ahead, go to: -

Start -> All Programs -> Windowst Anytime Upgrade.

Choose your version and Windows will update automatically.
