Wear on the palm rest of VAIOs

Did someone mention in the forum not so long ago that the paint / finish on some of the newer VAIOs comes off easily, particularly where your palms rest?:smileysad:

I do hope not, but if this is true I will try to be as careful as possible. Is there any way to prevent it?

I have taken to removing the 'Designed for Windows XP', 'ATI' and 'Intel Inside' stickers as soon as I get a new VAIO as i find over time they get tatty (where you hands rub against them). Additionally, if they are left on for too long the leave a mark when removed as the rest of the case has either faded or been slightly worn! Neither of which looks particuarly good.

I'd rather get rid of them straight away and have a clean looking VAIO!

I remember Steve P saying that using PDA screen protectors protected the VAIOs body too.

I'm considering removing the last two as now my XP one is starting to curl at the edges. And you are right, the one I removed yesterday has left a mark :slight_frown:

tip

if you need to remove the glue that's left, after peeling off a sticker, use an alcohol based deodorant spray on a cloth

works for me

You need to be careful with alchol based products as they can actually damadge the finish of the VAIO !!!!

A safer way to remove the glue is to use some Sellotape, use the sticky side and 'pat' the glue residue. It will stick to the Sellotape and be harmlessly removed from the VAIO

However, as I said earlier, if the stickers have been on for a long time they may always leave a mark.

This is due to the fact that the paint on the case is affected by light and the action of your palms as you type. I'm afraid there is'nt much you can do about this long-term damadge!!!

I am just concerned to hear that it may happen on some of the newer VAIOs over a much shorter time period.

Yep, mines there for life - tried to clean it earlier, and the little square is a totally different shade - oh well :smileyrolling_eyes:
