Updating to Android 7.0 (Russian language) has changed letters on a dialing keypad from cyrillic to latin so now I can't search my contacts (which are using cyrillic names as U understand) while dialing. I tried to find any setting in my xperia to change the layout but I couldn't. Changing the phone language to English then back to Russian (who knows, it could probably help 🙂 ) didn't affect on a phone keypad too.
Is there any way to fix the problem and change the keypad letters to cyrillic without installing any third-party dialers?
Hi @puff2005, welcome to our community!
You may find that the Cyrillic letters on the Phone app’s dial pad are missing even if you have chosen a language that uses the Cyrillic alphabet, such as Russian. This is because the function “Smart search” was removed for the Cyrillic alphabet in the Android™ 7.0 update.
I have requested some information if this feature will be implemented later on, and I will update you as soon as I have received that information.
I am sorry for the inconvenience and I thank you for your patience.
Hello again!
I have now received information if this will be implented later on.
There is currently no plan to re-implement non-Latin alphabets on the Phone app’s dial pad, though no final decision has been made.
