Forgotten passcode and phone set to Plane Mode

Hello,

My Brother has this phone. He recently changed and forgot the new pattern code he set, and the finger sensor seems to be disabled. There is no Forgot Passcode option. I read about logging in to the phone using the Gmail device manager, but this does not work, I think because his phone is on plane mode. The only screen he can access on the phone is to enter a pattern. I believe he has 11/30 attempts left before the phone resets.

I read something about OTG cables, would this work considering his phone is on the lock screen?

Any advice helpful, thank you.

@DarrenBilly

press the power button > pull down the notification bar > turn off airplane mode > then use either Android Device Manager or MyXperia

Hi @DarrenBilly,

Welcome to the community.

If you are unable to get the device unlocked using the methods uliwooly suggested, then you will need to perform a software repair using Xperia Companion. Please be aware that this will erase the handset, and without being able to unlock the screen, you won't be able to back up the phone. Slightly_frowning_Face

Thanks for the suggestion @uliwooly. I tried to pull down the notification pane, but it does not drop down. Are you aware of any other methods? My brother needs to get some photos off of it, at which point he won't mind having to restore it.

@DarrenBilly

get an USB OTG cable + mouse > restart the phone

And if I get the OTG cable and a mouse, what does it allow me to do?
Given that the phone is locked, would I be able to access the device storage?

Thank you @uliwooly

@DarrenBilly,

An OTG cable is a USB Micro Male to USB Female. It will allow you to plug in a corded mouse into your phone and use a cursor on your screen to control it. You should be able to enter your PIN and navigate your phone.

Thank you for the response, however the pattern code has been forgotten, hence the need to find a way to access photos on the phone some other way.

@DarrenBilly

Connect the USB OTG cable to the phone > connect a mouse to the USB OTG cable > restar the phone > pull down the notification bar > diable airplane mode > enable WiFi > now you should be able to unlock the phone and/or use your google account to unlock the phone.

At which point should I be able to pull down the notification bar, as I restarted the phone and tried this before...
