This could probably go together with the missing Xperia keyboard thread, but I noticed it now. Has File Commander being removed as well? Without any replacement? At least I can't find any file manager.
Solved! Go to Solution.
Since Lollipop there is a file manager built into the Android OS, but quite hidden. You'll find it under Settings - Memory - Advanced - ... if you click on "internal memory" and then the last item or if you click on SD card (whatever memory you want to access. But it's a very basic file manager.
But you can still install the "File Commander" from the Playstore.
The preinstalled File Commander was a necessary and helpful thing in KitKat in order to get write access to the SD card somehow. Since Lollipop (and Marshmallow) it's up to the user to give write access to the SD card to any app, so you can install any file manger you want.
For my part I'm not so unhappy about any app not being preinstalled ...

Well, don't get me wrong. I prefer to have most apps optional as well. Especially crap like Facebook. And don't make me start about the antivirus. I removed/diabled them immediately. A File Manager (any file manager) instead in my opinion is a must. I am a bit surprised it didn't come with any. Although it's true, there is the basic, hidden one from Android. Oh well... it wasn't that imortant. I just thought Sony added a different one and I just couldn't find it (I synched all my apps from my older phone so it was a bit hard to search for it).
There is a basic file manager (which is, IMHO, a must for any clean install, too... it's a sin to include Facebook & similar apps, but any basic functionality should be covered upon first boot...) atleast in Nougat. It's labelled "Downloads", though. It works as a basic file manager and suits my needs, I like the fact that I do not have to use a 3rd party app.
(There is no sound recording app, though. Sounds can be recorded via. the messaging app, but not simply by using a built-in recorder.. this is dumb. There also is no "notes" app).
Disclaimer: This was a bit of necroing from my part, but maybe the user still has this question and gets help
