There is on improvement under Android 9 : the audio registered in videos is perfect now.
Under Android O we had some strange background effect, like the ambient sounds were transferred via plastic pipe... hard do explain, but when you noticed this once, it was disturbing all the time.
Now under Android P it's perfect. Nice and clean.
Anyway, the picture quality is worse. I am using also XZ2 (XA2 is my company phone, XZ2 is my private) and I can see the camera application behavior is similar : when you press the shutter half-way the image on screen becomes sharp for a split of a second. But then after taking photo we get different results, obviously :
- on XA2 the daytime photos are mostly OK, unless you turn on HDR manually - then the HDR photo looks like it was taken in 6 Mpix resolution - is there some "pixel binning" used for HDR photos ?
- on XA2 low-light photos... similarly, low resolution, poor effect
- on XA2 there is one more problem : when Superior Auto detects "Backlit" scene, it should turn on HDR automatically - but it's not working at all. If I take such photo and then, in the same conditions, I take the same photo in manual mode, there is no difference. So it detects the need for HDR but the actual photo is not taken with HDR.
If these problems would be fixed, the XA2 would be absolutely fantastic device again.
the light from the front camera sometimes fails and the result is a photo without light
