How do I find lost text messages?

I have a sony xperia I cracked the screen.  The text messaging did go a little crazy, so I had the screen replaced.  When I got my phone back I put in my sim card and waited the 10-15 minutes for everything to reset/send/ect and generally do it's thing. I could see text messages coming through and who they were from, but I only paid attention to a few. When it was done,  I was told I had 13 messages.  I went into messaging and there were no new messages, and the messages that I saw come in weren't amoungst the list of conversations available at all, scrolling from top to bottom.  So, I searched for one of the contacts that I had seen a message come in from and clicked on their name and the message and their previous messages showed up as usual.  I did that for the ones I saw, but I still have 10 messages and no way of knowing who they are from other than they're not from the people who's names show up, which are all the ones from before I took my phone in and removed the sim card.

Ideas???
And no, rebooting doesn't help.

@easybreezee

When your phone gets repaired everything its deleted, as far as the messages, they were probably just notifications of texts that were send when you didn't had the phone with you. I don't think the messages are there, but you could use a different messaging app to see if they appear ( google messenger)

How are they going to be seen by another ap when they've already been received?
And, yes they are my text because I could retreive the ones that were from people I could go back and search on.

The problem is, I can't search your name or number if I don't know you sent me a message.

@easybreezee

If the messages are on your phone the other app should show them, if not then you won't have access to them.

But I do, if I know who they're from or I know words in the text.

Hi @easybreezee,

I suggest that you try @uliwooly's suggestion and try changing the default SMS app. If you haven't disabled the Hangouts app you could make that your default SMS app by going to Settings > More > Default SMS app. Have a look in the app after doing this and see if it shows any unread messages in the app or on the app icon.

Now the notification is gone for those messages and they are not in the new ap or the old one.
Getting Frustrated.

I'm sorry to say but in that case there doesn't appear to be any unread texts stored in the phone.

There ARE unread texts on the phone!
You've just told me a way to ignore the notifications!
I told you that as long as I knew the senders name I could search and find them.

I'm sorry you don't think my messages are as important as I do! And I'm sorry that you can't just say, "I don't know."  But you are not right and this is not a solution!  There may be important information in those texts and I don't appreciate that just because you haven't come accross this before that you choose to dismiss it.

Let's try this another way.

Is there a way to list my texts by date?

or is there a way that I can go into my application file and export or extrapulate from there?

or is there a way to get into stored data for the messaging ap?

I know the data is on the phone.  How do I access it.
