USB c and 3 compatible but still very slow to copy my pictures

Why is Android still slow at copying videos and pictures from my phone to my pc. I copied 80gb from my phone to my portable hdd in 2hrs but to my pc it was taking 3days it said. Please is there any other way of speeding up data transfer. Missing USB mass storage loads!!!

How many files are you trying to transfer from the 

a) SD card to the computer?

b) internal storage to your computer?

It's all my photos so it's thousands of files and they are all stored on my SD card.

It will be a lot faster if you connect the SD card directly to your computer, I've been there, Transferred 20GB of pictures the other day

although it doesn't explain the SUPER slow speed, this phone has a USB-C connector but only USB 2.0 interface.  Only the full-sized XZ1 has USB 3.1.
