magnetometer / compass

The magnetometer in my Z2 is wrong by about 20 degrees. How can I re-calibrate it?

The dialer does disappear but then you should see four options:-

Hi,

How were you able to check that?

Goto the dialer and enter service settings menu *#*#7378423#*#*

Then select 'Service Tests', 'Compass', and follow the instructions..

I have had to do it a few times on my Z2 but seems the accuracy is worse on Google Maps for me...

The moment i complete typing the last *, it just disappears, the service menu doesn't come through.

Thanks. Calibration by that method has fixed the problem.

As delivered, some more careful experimentation showed an inconsistent error of -8 degrees +/-4 degrees against two conventional magnetic compasses (which agreed to within 1 degree), and using three compass apps, one of which claimed to do calibration.

Why is the device as delivered so out of calibration?

And why is recalibration only available through such an opaque method?

Not sure buddy... I've done it a few times mainly on Google maps...

Hmmm... it seems to be a bit fragile - I recalibrated it again and got a -5 degree error; doing it a third time got it back to zero error.

How many times did I need to do it to calibrate? Does it vibrate or something?
