Hello, I found a post where I saw that it was possible connection through one Ethernet cable and a USB OTG ethernet adapter, specifically here:
http://www.davebennett.tech/connect-android-to-ethernet/
I tried this on my Nexus 7 2013 6.0.1 and it has worked properly. No need to do anything more to remove the wifi connection and get an icon like this > .... < to confirm the internet.
Same cables, otg I connect my Z5 and I'm finding OTG system. I said nothing is found, in fact not the current LED lights ethernet adapter. It is a firmware failure or simply no power? Anyone else happens or you can try to confirm?
A greeting.
Sorry for my writing in English if it is not correct or not understandable.
Most manufacturers removed support from the kernel regarding usb to ethernet adapters over OTG. Nexus still have it, and iPhone and iPad too, but in this case you need the genuine Apple adapters and a self powered usb hub. Just root and install custom kernels that have the feature already built-in, like the AndroPlus Kernel for Xperia Z5 / Z5 Compact.

Japanese people is very close minded, I doubt you will get the smallest answer from them. They just copy others, if Samsung, LG and HTC added support for that feature Sony will follow for sure.
@Jussin - Yes I got that too - now both power and OTG available for iPhone - and now Ethernet on iPhone is officially supported by Apple.
So far I have tried three USB adapters, include Apple, Plugable and Rankie - all three worked.
The unfortunate thing is a $100 Acer iconia tablet on Android supports OTG ethernet adapters - but not a $600 premium phone!
@Xetaro -

Or you can try the newest Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+. They allow ethernet with the Dex docking, probably they allow ethernet adapters too over microusb.
Besides that, the Nexus and Pixel allow ethernet too.
I have tha same problem on Xperia XA ultra,
I have bought Honor 9 lite - there work is good with otg ethernet,
Sony is LAME!!!
yes, i tried the Ethernet on Ipad too; worked with the mentioned setup on all the ones i tried, only the Ipad 1 would not have this functionality. The Iphones i think have this functionality starting with Iphone 4, probably.
But what is odd, is that the Iphones would not Bluetooth Reverse Tether to the Computer, which is actually a very nice feature for light surfing at Home (because no cable needed and smaller radiation impact - only Bluetooth).
Ipads would do well with Bluetooth Reverse Tether (Eg. Sharing the INternet Connection from the Desktop over Bluetooth to the Ipad).
I don't really care about Iphones though, because there prices and SAR Values are just way too offlimit.
Really hope that the Ethernet functionality could come back to Xperia Phones because they were one of the best supporters of it it seems.
Sony is still really late in smartphone industry, use Samsung or LG for now.
