Hi Sony,
I've got this touch screen iresponsive on the top and bottom. I was not able to pulldown the notification and shortcuts menu when in portrait mode. Now even the bottom part of the screen starting become iresponsive. Pressing the back/menu/taskmenu starting to mulfunction.
Please help me fix this issue.
The hardware and issue should seruosjse be investigated. It's more than a coincidence with the amount of phones inheriting the hadwsreh failure and more of a corporate plan. Can a class action lawsuit be made?
I would like to chime in here since I've this very same problem with my Z3 Compact.
I've had the phone since April 2015, and since day one, literally when I peeled off the display protective plastic installed a tempered glass on the screen as I was worried regarding the 'self-cracking screen' issue. Also use a rugged heavy duty case in case of drops on the floor.
I admit the phone have suffered from 3 falls hitting the ground, but upon inspection there were no damage.
The issue of unresponsive bottom buttons started like 2 months ago, and now it's exhibiting the same problem on the upper part of the screen, and even when I'm scrolling down, you'll see as if I have swiped my finger from the top down on the notification area.
Bear in mind I did a fresh installation of the ROM, so this is indeed faulty LCD panels or something must be happening to cause this.
Before using Sony I was an avid Nokia user, I still have phones such as 5800 XpressMusic and Nokia N8, and none of them have suffered from issues on the screen even though these are older devices.
Sony is the only manufacturer that produces flagship spec'ed compact phones, and I was considering a change to a Xperia X or maybe XZ1 but what if does devices does have the same problem.
At least we need an official statement from Sony what is causing this issue.
Is the Screen smashed
I agree that Sony needs to provide a statement for this. Too many Z3 Compact especially when the devices are reaching their 2 year manufacturer age.
The compact like was the only phone I like for the size. I've moved to a Pixel now and been happy. I'm upset my Z3 Compact phone is in this condition even if it's sitting in as an alarm clock.
Translation via Google Translate:
We could make a collective complaint to Sony for giving us explanations and to make sure that it recognizes that the Z3 compact is faulty (from 2 years onwards). Instead of spending money on advertising, it could compensate its buyers !!!
Potremmo fare un reclamo collettivo alla Sony per farci dare delle spiegazioni e per fare in modo che riconosca che il Z3 compact è difettoso ( dai 2 anni in poi ) . Anzichè spendere soldi in pubblicità , potrebbe risarcire i suoi acquirenti !!!
Il Z3 compact é chiaro che è difettoso ( dai 2 anni in poi ) l'azienda Sony dovrebbe riconoscerlo e garantire i suoi prodotti ai suoi clienti. Un reclamo collettivo si può fare ?
The Z3 compact is clear that it is faulty (from 2 years on) the Sony company should recognize it and guarantee its products to its customers. Can a collective claim be made?

Given the high cost of Sony phones, it is not normal for the screen to be faulty after 2 years. Many other submarine phones do not have this problem
Visto il costo elevato dei telefoni Sony , non è normale che dopo 2 anni lo schermo risulta difettoso. Molti altri telefoni si sottomarca non hanno questo problema

Same problem with the touch screen of the Z3 compact: top en midden touch screen don't work after two en a half year. Couldn't unlock my phone any more because of the not working midden line of the screen.
After reading all those messages my conclusion is clear: no Sony mobile phone any more! It's garbage.
Risposta saggia !! Per quanto si spende , c'è di meglio !
Wise answer !! As much as you spend, it's better!

Unitl Sony resolves this issue, here is a workaround, which at least allow using the phone, even though it's still a pain: Install Button Savior Non Root (or one of the other smart key replacements).
