Z3 not booting/charging after failed update

The latest FW update for my Xperia Z3 compact (v. 23.0.1.A.5.77) for some reason failed. There was not enough battery so the PC Companion was complaining. I've charged and tried again. The phone kept finidng some sort of recovery and powering itself off.

Now, if I power it ON it shows this big message that update has failed and that I should connect and try again. I connect the USB to my laptop. First of all it doesn't even want to power ON. It can only power ON with disconnected USB. If I disconnect, it powers ON. But then displays the message listed above and shuts down.

How to resolve this?

What the 1st part is making sure of is that your device is fully powered off otherwise a repair will not initialize so yes that pin hole will complete the same objective of turning off your phone completely.

you just need to make sure that you have charge in your phone

Due to a failed update your only option is performing a system repair however as a result of doing this it will factory reset your phone

Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the onscreen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process

If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

The "Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds" didn't do anything - i.e. the phone didn't power up at all.

Is this the only way? WHat about that tiny pin button between micro-USB and MicroSD card?

I have absolutely same issue and I've tried already your receipt. It's not working for me =(

Also, Sony PC Companion tells that there is "error 100", but my internet connection is stable

Could it be a problem with Sony update servers?

P.S. sorry for my english

It could be or it could also be that you need Java installed or updated or that your AV is blocking the program from downloading

This hammer method actually worked fine for me. It still **bleep** that a simple upgrade can brick my phone.

The key was to have the PC companion up to date. Then you need to use the left-most option there to update or recover your phone. The simple update wasn't working. Make sure that when the bricked phone is connetced the system properly recognizes its USB driver. Then just follow the instructions.

It seems that problem was with my USB-port

Tried another one and update completed successfully

I have the same problem with Xperia Z3 Compact. Tried everything listed here and still no joy. The phone was fully charged, I changed USB ports, pushed the pinhole and had zero result.

I have the same problem, maybe I reconnected the the Z3 at the wrong time.

I have a second Z3 which was updated ok. This one I kept connected during the whole procedure.

I have connected this second Z3 using the same USB port and cable and PC Companion recognized this device!

The Z3 for which updating failed is not recognized and only displays the text saying that updating failed and that I should retry!

I have tried to reset the Z3 but noting change!
