Can't make call by clicking on the number in a text of SMS

Dear users,

When I receive any SMS and if there's a contact number in it, it doesn't make a call to that number when I click on it. The numbers in the text of SMS are underlined, meaning that it is a link and you can click on it, but when I click on it the screen goes all white (like it tries to open the phone app and make a call, but fails) and then returns to the message and nothing happens. I always used this method and it always worked on my previous Xperias and I cannot understand what is wrong now.

Do you guys face the same problem? Maybe someone knows how to set it up from the settings? I use default Messages app and default Phone app. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

@mfuad , you can delete the messages app data that it won't delete your messages (I have already tried it myself).

Hi @mfuad;

In mine it is working normally (I get a menu which one of the options is call the underlined number).

I would start by clearing the Messages app data and cache and restart phone.

@NunoSEN2 thanks for respond. I have tried it of course. I have cleaned the Phone app cashe as well as the Messages app. It was happening since the very first firmware (now I'm on the last one). I have updated Messages app, gave all possible permissions to messaging app and phone app. And today I tried it in safe mode - same problem.

This has been an issue on mine that I noticed soon after receiving it on July 17th.   Can not be avanced to neither a phone number or email address but luckily it will give me access to a mini menu pop up when selecting an underlined address with the option to go straight to maps and a link to a website works just as it should too

This phone for so many reasons.    I have owned nothing but XPERIAs since the Z1.  My Z3 lasted almost flawlessly until July  when the XPERIA 1 was released in the states. The fact that they haven't fixed the overheating screen issue is a joke.   I live in Texas so I basically can't use my phone uninterrupted while outside on hot days during the daytime.  That's like 4 months out of the year.    Complete BS.      First $1040.60 phone and probably the last I'll ever buy.

@mfuad , I am not talking about the Messages app cache only but also all the data of the app, have you tried it also?

@NunoSEN2 to be honest I didn't try to delete app data, because I'm afraid that it will delete all the messages.

@NunoSEN2 thank you very much for your help! The problem is solved and now when I click on the underlined number I get the menu to call, copy, etc.. And all my messages are still there )

Much appreciated!

Have a good day!

That worked for me too, thank you.

Still don't like this phone.

And a few minutes later the problem has returned.    Doing the same chache and storage delete/dump fixed the issue but only temporarily.     Restarting the phone afterwords does nothing and only when I do the dump will it fix itself, momentarily.          What's up OP, did yours come back too?
