We love Sony and Xperia 1 so much but we didn't think the Xperia 1 has this low level error.Where did your testers go? Why are such simple questions not listed and allowed to go public?
At least dozens of users complained on Weibo that their Xperia 1 had a “phone crash”.Here are two examples:
With such a basic error, I hope that Sony can fix it as soon as possible.#Xperia1
Hi @Zackbuks, Sorry to hear about this.
Have you tried clearing the data for the Phone app? By doing this you will reset all settings for the app in question which might do the trick. In order to do this, find and tap Settings > Apps & notifications > See all XX apps > Phone > Storage > Clear data > Tap "OK" > Restart the phone.
Another thing that you can try is to reboot your phone to safe mode in order to see whether this behaviour occurs there. All apps that you have downloaded from Play Store is temporarily deactivated while in safe mode and by doing this you can see if this behaviour is caused by a downloaded app. For more information on safe mode and how to use it, click here.
If none of the measures above manages to improve the functionality of the Phone app, I I would suggest that you try to perform a software repair using a computer and Xperia Companion. Please note though that a software repair will erase all user data, so remember to do a backup of your user data first.
Try these measures and let me know how it goes!
Whether clearing Phone application data, entering Safe Mode, and resetting my phone, we've tried all three methods, but it's all for a while, and then we get an error crush. It is very strange that if you switch to third-party phone app, you will not get an error, but you will get an error if you use the pre-installed phone app.
I met the same problem, and can't solve by the ways you suggested. Even the third-party app didn't work, which means I can't call out or pick up calls at all. Hope you can solve this problem as soon as possible. It's ridiculous the latest smart phone of Sony can not even make a phone call.
So almost a week has passed, and my question is that no one has given a viable solution. Is it a mobile phone with a value of $1,000, and the basic functions are not as good as those of cheap products?
I have never encountered this problem on a Sony Xperia phone, this is the first time! What happened to Sony? Have you already laid off employees to the point where the basic functions have to be outsourced? Imagine an expensive flagship smartphone. The basic functions inside are actually from the third-rate outsourcing team. Where is Sony's own competitiveness? How is such poor software quality tested? It is incredible that developers in Tokyo, Lund, and Beijing can make products of this quality. Even Chinese manufacturers can make various convenience functions for the phone application. We have not been extravagant about how rich your functions are, and now I can't even dial a phone! A phone can't get it! What is the significance of my purchase of this phone?
More than a week past getting no solution or even a response, people must have been disappointed and so have I. Although it seems there are only two people reported this, the phone problem is not a single or inessential one, but quite common and vital. It happens not occasionally but all the time! I bought Xperia 1 as a PHONE, not digital camera or Walkman or some other.
I URGE you to solve this problem as soon as possible! Or how do you want us customers to “Make Believe”?
There are several reasons for phone app or other app crashing issues. You'll try below given settings to fix app crashing or freezing related issues on any android devices.

Step 4: Safe mode symbol appear on bottom left corner of the screen
I hope one of the above given method fix your phone app crashing issues.
Today it's been one week since I got the phone, and my disappointment started on day 2, when several apps keep crashing and basic functions just don't work.
I'm considering the 14 days return policy I got on it and go for a Samsung. My Samsung tablet, which is used and abused a lot, never has issues like these. What a shame that Sony disappoints me after 8 years of enjoying their Xperia phones.
May be could you please try clear data for the apps.
For crashing apps; go to settings >apps and clear data.
Else you may also try flashing the firmware again or try repair software using Xperia Companion in PC.
This will definitely help.
